Rave Review: "Hogfather" by Terry Pratchett

Quick Summary

Type: Novel, Book 20 in Discworld Series

Genre: Fiction, fantasy, humor

Summary: "It's the most wonderful time of the year, Hogswatchnight, when the Hogfather himself dons his red suit pulled by - of course - eight hogs, to shower gifts across Discworld. But when the fat man goes missing, someone has to sit in. It's up to Death to take up the reigns - otherwise the sun won't shine tomorrow...or ever again."

Rating: 5 stars

Review

Fun, amusing, nonsensical in a good way. Even though some of the scenes felt like they had no real purpose in driving the plot forward, I still enjoyed reading them (which leads me to suspect that Pratchett included them because he had fun writing them).

I also greatly enjoyed how the separate seemingly disparate plotlines came together - Mr. Teatime's assassination plot, Susan's investigation, and Death's masquerade all seemed so far apart and yet all came together. I especially enjoyed the climax at the Tooth Fairy's tower, when Susan faces off against Mr. Teatime.

Hogfather was an excellent entry into the Discworld series. It made me excited to explore the Discworld further.
