Ending the Slump

At some point at the end of last year, I fell into a massive reading slump, which means my posts on this blog petered out (though the benefit of not having an audience is that no one noticed). For the life of me, I couldn't bring myself to finish a book, which turned into not picking up any books to end the year. Honestly, I think I was a little burned out.

On top of that, the end of 2024 and the beginning of 2025 were kind of rough for me, on a personal level. The election certainly did not go the way I expected or hoped, and I ended 2024 despairing about the future of this country.

I started 2025 by losing my grandfather. Then three days after my grandfather's death, my grandmother had a stroke and spent the next couple months slowly recovering at a hospital. The stress of losing one grandparent and almost losing the other, within the same week, definitely hit me hard and on top of not reading anymore, I stopped writing or doing pretty much anything besides work and survive. I even had an embarrassing breakdown at the gym in the middle of a bench set (thank goodness I had a spotter). In short, I didn't have a productive start to 2025.

But a few months have passed. I've been grieving my grandfather's death and have come to terms with it, and my grandmother is just a couple of weeks from leaving the rehab center and going home. I'm feeling much better mentally, and it shows. I've gotten back into writing, and I'm slowly getting back into reading, which means the slump is finally coming to an end.

And with the ending slump, I'm going to get back to blogging. But I think I'm going to expand the scope of this blog. Aside from posts about reading and writing, I want to talk about other things that interest me - sports, for example. I also want to occasionally touch on important subjects that border on the political, but affect me (and others) personally.
